Record temperatures in Alabama on Saturday

According to the National Weather Service, several Alabama cities experienced record temperatures again on Saturday.

Temperatures were still very warm across the southern half of the state on Saturday, causing several record lows.

The cell phone was one of the oldest records today. Mobile reached 90 degrees this afternoon, breaking the old record of 87 degrees set in 1936, the National Weather Service in Mobile said.

Huntsville hit 86 degrees on Oct. 26, a record that has stood since 1927.

Elsewhere in the state, warm temperatures fell a few degrees below the record area.

Some other high temperatures from Saturday:

* Anniston: 86 degrees (record was 88 in 1963)

* Birmingham: 86 degrees (record was 88 in 1963)

* Dothan: 89 degrees (record was 90 in 2010)

* Montgomery: 88 degrees (record was 90 in 2010)

* Muscle bundles: 81 degrees (record was 89 in 1931)

* Tuscaloosa: 87 degrees (record was 89 in 2010)

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly after a cold front moves through north Alabama on Sunday. The area will also have a slight chance of a shower or two, though most will stay on the dry side.

Mid to upper 80s are possible again Sunday in parts of south and south-central Alabama, according to weather service forecasts (see map at top of this post).

Above average temperatures are likely next week and beyond. Here’s a six- to 10-day temperature forecast from the Climate Prediction Center showing a high probability of above-average temperatures for the first few days of November:
