Prediction: Cowboys will activate RB Dalvin Cook against 49ers

Running back Dalvin Cook will make his Dallas Cowboys debut when he is activated from the practice squad for Sunday’s road game against the San Francisco 49ers, NFL Network announced Saturday.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said this week that the four-time Pro Bowl selection is close to being active after being signed to the practice squad on Aug. 28.

Cook, 29, has rushed for 6,207 yards and 47 touchdowns in 88 NFL games (73 starts) in seven seasons since becoming a second-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2017. He also has 236 receptions for 1,872 yards and five scores.

Cook had four 1,000-yard seasons on the ground for the Vikings from 2019-22 before undergoing shoulder surgery. He has 1,557 rushing yards and 16 scores in just 14 games (all starts) in 2020.

Cook was released by Minnesota in June 2023, and he had a disappointing 15-game stint with the New York Jets last season. He rushed for 214 yards before being released in early January.

The Baltimore Ravens picked up Cook and he rushed for 23 yards on eight carries in the playoff win over the Houston Texans. He did not play in next week’s AFC Championship game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
