Miller has tried several times to show off his team-building skills since joining the organization, once publicly calling former All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to Buffalo in a months-long pursuit that ultimately came to nothing. Miller’s managerial career got off to a great start when it came to player signings, but Beane, fortunately, doesn’t share the disadvantage. A veteran team builder never sits on his hands and lets his club struggle if he thinks he can figure out improvement, and he demonstrated that idea by acquiring seven-time 1,000-yard receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns earlier this month. . The move comes after a tough stretch by Buffalo’s receiving corps, highlighted by a Week 5 outing in which the unit combined for just four catches.
The veteran pass rusher was in the midst of a four-game suspension when the trade was made, so he hasn’t yet had a chance to share the field with Cooper. Now back in the lineup after his suspension layoff, Miller is excited to play with his new teammate and reiterated during Wednesday’s media availability that Beane is better at the job than he is now.
“I’m excited,” Miller said. βI thought the wide receiver corps we had before was good, and I’m always optimistic about it. But adding another Pro Bowl, All-Pro wide receiver is great for us. I remember when I got traded to the Los Angeles Rams, it gives you a boost, especially when you go from a tough team to a good team.
βIt just gives you energy, and I see that in Coop as well. I’m excited and I’m glad I’m not in negotiations or anything because I’m 0-3 when it comes to getting guys here. That’s probably what you have to do when you’re trying to get guys here.”
Whether or not both Miller and Cooper will be active in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins remains to be seen. was limited in Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury. Despite their immediate availability, both players are accomplished veterans who will help a young Buffalo team that suddenly has big ambitions this season.
