The Los Angeles Chargers signed the center today Sam Mustifer to the active list. The team also signed a cornerback Kendall Williamson to the training squad.
Since entering the NFL as a free agent in 2019, Mustifer Has started 44 of 55 career games with the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers, including a 2020 postseason start. He became the Bolts starting right guard in Week 4 of this season after being promoted from the practice squad. Mustifer started all 17 games with the Bears in 2021 and 16 of 17 contests with Chicago in 2022. He played in nine games for the Ravens last season and made a pair of starts on the line blocking quarterback Lamar Jackson. won his second Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award.
Mustifer played in 47 games over four seasons (2015-18) at the University of Notre Dame and finished his career with 36 consecutive starts at center for the Fighting Irish. During his time in South Bend, Ind., he helped Notre Dame to three bowl appearances in 2018 while serving as team captain and finishing 5th in the nation after posting a 12-1 record.
Williamson originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (258th overall) of the Chicago Bears in the 2023 NFL Draft and spent time on the Bears’ and Buffalo Bills’ practice squads. He appeared in 49 career games with 38 starts over five seasons (2018-22) at Stanford. On the farm, Williamson won the Cardinal’s 2021 Tommy Cardell Award, given to a junior or senior player who demonstrates excellence in academics and athletics. He had 203 total tackles (140 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, 14 pass defenses and one interception at Stanford.
